Growing a rainbow baby: 18 weeks pregnant

How big is Baby Button-Nose this week?

Baby BN is nearly as big as a bell pepper and weighs 190g. (Length: 14.2cm, head to bottom.)

Symptoms:

This week I’ve had my first experience of acid reflux in this pregnancy. It’s something I only seem to get whilst pregnant, in fact, I think the last time I had heartburn was when I was pregnant with Jasmine! Fortunately, it didn’t last too long but I suspect I’ll probably start getting it a lot more over the next few weeks/months.

Other than that, I’m still getting lower back pain on the days when I’m most active (i.e walked lots or cleaned the house.)

My boobs are still sore and tender – I don’t remember them hurting for this long in my last pregnancy. But it feels like they’re probably going to be sore the whole way through this one!

At the moment, I’m still wearing non-maternity clothes but as the days go on I’m noticing that it’s getting increasingly hard for me to do up buttons etc. Everything is starting to feel a bit snug now. I think I’m going to have to send Stephen up to the loft to dig out my maternity clothes.

Those little baby kicks I’ve been feeling are growing ever stronger and I feel Button Nose moving around several times throughout the day.

Mood:

A very mixed week again this week. I feel like I’ve been experiencing a roller coaster of emotions. One day I’m happy and content, the next I’m in despair and feel incredibly tearful. I’ve also felt quite moody and snappy at times but I think that was due to having a tiring weekend with lots of travelling and late nights.

Highlight of the week:

Pregnancy highlight – This week I’ve started to be able to actually see little baby kicks from the outside! And if I place my hand where I can feel baby kicking (still very low down), I can feel the kicks on my palm as well as from the inside.

Non-pregnancy highlight – I went to Britmums Live at the weekend (my second time going to this event) and although I was still really anxious about going, I had a great day. Caught up with some of my lovely bloggy friends, made some new ones and enjoyed the sessions I went to.

Food cravings:

Ice cream. (I can normally take or leave ice cream but this week I’ve actually craved it!)

Food aversions:

Still avoiding eggs.

Things I’m missing:

Wearing clothes that fit me properly! ;)

Sleep:

I fall asleep very quickly at night and tend to sleep quite deeply too. I haven’t been waking up in the night to go to the loo this week (but I am absolutely busting come the morning!). I do still feel tired during the daytime though, regardless of how well I sleep at night.

Pregnancy/baby related purchases:

Nothing.

Growing a rainbow baby: 17 weeks pregnant

How big is Baby Button-Nose this week?

Baby BN currently weighs about 140g this week, about as much as a turnip. Length: 13cm, head to bottom.

Symptoms:

Not much to report this week. I’ve had a hideous cold and cough which has meant I’ve felt rotten but not had much in the way of actual pregnancy symptoms except for the usual lower back pain.

Baby movements are getting stronger still and more regular too. I love feeling little kicks!

Mood:

Pretty good! :)

Highlight of the week:

I went for a well overdue haircut on Wednesday evening which felt like a nice break!

Also, on Friday evening I met up with some other local pregnant ladies who I met through a Facebook group. If you’ve read my recent post about how lonely and isolated I’ve been feeling lately, you’ll know how much I needed to meet some lovely new people to talk to. And they were just that – absolutely lovely, they didn’t feel like strangers at all. And we didn’t just talk about children/pregnancy the whole time either! Hopefully we’ll get to meet up regularly over the coming months.

Food cravings:

Fresh pineapple. Nom!!

Food aversions:

Earlier in the week, I cooked some sweet potato fries to have with my lunch but when I pulled them out of the oven, the smell made me heave. I had to throw them in the bin as there was no way they were going in my mouth!

Things I’m missing:

Good weather. This grey, wet weather makes for a very grumpy pregnant woman indeed. I feel stuck inside the house enough as it is!

Sleep:

Not too bad – I still wake up to go to the loo most nights. I do need to start going to bed earlier though. (I know I keep saying that!)

Pregnancy/baby related purchases:

Nothing yet. I’ve been eyeing up some gorgeous sleep suits that are currently on offer at JoJo Maman Bebe but have so far managed to resist. I’ve also started to research prams and bedside cribs. I’m torn between hiring a Bednest again (which we did for Jasmine) or buying a Snuzpod. The sensible part of me thinks we should probably save our pennies and hire a Bednest (about £80 for 6 months) but I am lusting over the Snuzpods – they are so, so beautiful!

And as for prams, well I feel so overwhelmed by how many there are out there. We bought a Joie travel system when we had Jasmine but that got damaged at an airport so we’ll need something else.  It’s the only real big purchase we need to make this time around as we kept most of Jasmine’s baby things. Too bad it’s probably the most expensive, eh?!

Growing a rainbow baby: 16 weeks pregnant

How big is Baby Button-Nose this week?

Baby BN measures up to an avocado in size and weighs 100g. (Length: 11.6cm, head to bottom.)

Symptoms:

I thought week 16 was quite a quiet week symptoms-wise but then when I sat and thought about it, I seemed to have quite a big list by the end of it. Here goes…

The terrible skin has returned on my face. It’s not so much spots this time but my skin is red, sore and blotchy. Where’s this ‘glow’ everyone keeps telling me about, huh?

Frequent hot flushes – probably not helped by this hot, muggy weather we’ve been having.

Weird dreams – One night I dreamt I gave birth to surprise set of triplets! In another one I dreamt I could see baby’s tiny little foot poking out of my stomach. All of my weird dreams have been pregnancy/baby related.

Waking up every. single. night to go to the loo.

I seem to keep getting a stitch in the right side of my rib cage when walking.

My bump feels noticeably bigger… and harder? I’m suddenly more aware of being pregnant throughout the day.

Stronger baby flutters – yay!

I’ve caught a cold from Jasmine so I’ve had a ‘swallowed razor blades’ sensation in my throat for the last few days and snuffy nose. I hope it doesn’t hang around for too long.

Mood:

Much happier this week due to having Stephen home for two extra days. I did get upset at my 16 week midwife appointment, though.

Highlight of the week:

Being spoilt rotten on my birthday and also celebrating our first wedding anniversary.

Feeling Baby Button Nose move around more frequently – usually after meal times. :)

Food cravings:

No food cravings but I’m incredibly thirsty all of the time. It doesn’t seem to matter how much I drink, it’s never enough!

Food aversions:

Scrambled eggs and omelettes. I can just about handle making them for Jasmine but I couldn’t eat them myself. Yuk!

Things I’m missing:

Nothing.

Sleep:

As I said earlier – I’ve been waking up every night to go to the toilet which means I’m quite tired the next day. I’m quite enjoying the strange dreams I’ve been having though.

Pregnancy/baby related purchases:

I bought some fruity non-alcoholic cider to try – delicious!

Growing a rainbow baby: 15 weeks pregnant

How big is Baby Button-Nose this week?

Baby BN has grown to around the same size as an apple and weighs about 70g. (Length: 10.1cm, head to bottom.)

Symptoms:

At the beginning of the week I had quite a bad skin breakout on my face. My skin has stayed relatively clear during this pregnancy so far so it took me by surprise. Anyway, it seem to clear up by itself pretty quickly.

I’ve been suffering with lower backaches a lot this week. One evening, after getting Jasmine ready for bed, it took me several minutes to stand up because the pain was shooting down my backside/legs. My poor girl looked quite worried (I was doing my best not to swear and probably sounded a bit like “Ffff….aargrrghrhhjdkjkhdjhg!!”) and after explaining to her that my back hurt, she came over and started rubbing my back saying “ouchie”.

My tiredness came back with a vengeance this week and I’ve needed to take naps to get me through the day.

It doesn’t seem to matter how much I drink, I still feel thirsty! As a result, it’s meant I’ve been waking up in the night to go to the loo!

Hmm what else? I still have sore nipples!

I’ve also had quite a lot of crampy/stretching pains in my lower abdomen.

Mood:

I’ve felt pretty low and tearful for most of the week. I think being stuck inside lots due to the awful weather didn’t help. I’m also still really missing Bristol. I don’t know whether to mention how I’ve been feeling to my midwife at my (16 week) appointment next week or not.

Highlight of the week:

It’s not pregnancy related but we had a lovely family day out at Banham Zoo on Sunday. After feeling quite low throughout the week, it was much needed.

Food cravings:

Water melon! (I’ve craved something healthy at last, hurrah!)

Just like last week I seem to be constantly hungry.

Food aversions:

None.

Things I’m missing:

Home.

Sleep:

I probably haven’t been going to bed early enough of an evening and I’ve suffered more throughout the day with tiredness. I need to get back into the habit of going to bed at a reasonable hour.

Baby movements:

After thinking I was feeling my first flutters last week, I haven’t felt any noticeable movements at all this week. I know it’s still pretty early so I’m not too worried. I’ve had quite a lot of ‘stretching’ pains, though – and I feel like my belly has popped more this week. I didn’t show until 20+ weeks when I was pregnant with Jasmine (I lost a lot of weight in the first tri due to sickness) so it feels very weird to me that I’m kinda ‘showing’ already!

I used my doppler this week for the first time in a little while and found Baby BN’s heartbeat straightaway. That sound never gets old, does it? :)

Pregnancy/baby related purchases:

Nothing!

Growing a rainbow baby: 14 weeks pregnant

How big is Baby Button-Nose this week?

Baby BN is now roughly the size of a lemon (length: 8.7cm, head to bottom) and weighs about 43g.

Symptoms:

I feel like a lot of my first trimester symptoms are (mostly) disappearing now.

I had a random bout of nausea on Saturday (28th May) which lead to me being sick in a bush on the way to the shops. Isn’t pregnancy glamorous? That’s the first time I’ve been physically sick in a couple of weeks. I think it was because I hadn’t had enough to eat before taking my vitamin tablet.

Thankfully, I’ve had less of those awful headaches this week and I’m really hoping that this means I’ll see the back of them for good.

My boobs are still tender. My nipples feel a bit dry and sore, too.

My belly feels quite big and I think I look rather podgy at the moment.

I seem to be constantly hungry!

Mood:

Pretty good. I’m certainly feeling a lot happier than last week. I’ve tried to be more active this week and I think this has helped with my mood so I’m going to try and keep up with that. I’ve found doing 10-20 minutes of exercise here and there is enough to give me a little boost of energy and a mood lift.

That said, I did have one day (Friday 27th May) where I felt very emotional and constantly kept crying.

Highlight of the week:

I did a 10 minute pregnancy yoga session on Wednesday – just a little video I found on YouTube. It felt so good doing those stretches. But the best bit was that Jasmine came and stood next to me and started joining in. She was giggling away like it was the funniest thing ever. Beyond cute! :)

Food cravings:

Sweet potatoes fries – I just cannot get enough of them lately! I’ve been really hungry this week and seem to be constantly eating. I’ve been trying to reach for fresh fruits when snacking rather than things like chocolate and crisps. I am worried about putting too much weight on.

Food aversions:

Nothing in particular.

Things I’m missing:

Nothing. :)

Sleep:

I’ve had a few nights of broken sleep this week due to re-training our dog, Heidi, to sleep in her own bed again. (Don’t ask!) Anyway, it was a bit like having a newborn again for the first few nights because she’d constantly wake up and try to sneak up on our bed. 3 days in and I think she’s finally starting to get the picture! I also woke up really early on Wednesday morning with a stomachache. Despite all of that, I haven’t felt particularly tired during the daytime so I’m hoping this means I’m starting to get some energy back at last.

Baby movements:

Possibly?! I’ve a few moments where I’ve been convinced I could feel some flutters but to be honest, I think it was probably just gas! It’s so hard to tell, isn’t it?

Pregnancy/baby related purchases:

I finally got around to buying a couple of maternity bras. You can see just how ill-fitting my normal bra was in my bump photo. I feel so much more comfortable now and I regret not buying new bras sooner.
